Vaulted content is the part of Destiny 2 you can no longer play, and Bungie has removed a lot of it.
Campaigns, raids, strikes, seasons, and social spaces have all left the game since 2020. Bungie’s official page is long, and spellings differ between sources. We pulled it into one clean list by year. For what Bungie has and has not confirmed about bringing it back, see our Destiny 2 unvaulting guide. Want the story of the first campaign that left? Read our Red War guide. New to the game? Start with the new player guide, or see the returning player guide if you are coming back.

What the Destiny Content Vault Is
The Destiny Content Vault, or DCV, is Bungie’s content model for Destiny 2. Each year, some destinations and activities are removed from the game to make room for new ones.
Bungie says the DCV holds content from both Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. It also says vaulted content may return in the future.
Two rules help when you read the list below:
- Expansions are no longer vaulted. Since August 2022, Bungie keeps expansions in the game.
- Seasonal content leaves later. It stays through the expansion year, then moves into the DCV when the next expansion launches.
When an Exotic quest is vaulted, quests in progress are removed from your inventory. Bungie notes that the weapons may still be earnable by other means.

Events Retired in Update 9.7.0
Update 9.7.0 came out on June 9, 2026. Bungie’s update 9.7.0 support guide lists the changes.
It retired four seasonal events:
- Guardian Games
- Solstice
- Festival of the Lost
- The Dawning
Bungie uses the word retired for these. The guide does not mention the Destiny Content Vault, so we keep them in their own section.
Some rewards from these events can be earned through the Monument of Guardian Tenets. Some armor sets moved to Eververse for Bright Dust.
The update also deprecated parts of the Director:
- The legacy Vanguard Ops playlist
- Nightfall nodes
- The Legends node, whose Exotic missions, raids, and dungeons now launch from the Pinnacle Ops node or the Raids and Dungeons node

Bungie also said Destiny 2 would no longer receive planned live-service content updates after this release, though a stability hotfix could still ship.
Content That Has Returned From the Vault
Not everything in the DCV has stayed there.
Confirmed returns
- The Prophecy dungeon. Bungie’s own page says it returned in a later update.
- Eternity, The Citadel, Vostok, Meltdown, and Solitude. Destinypedia marks these five Crucible maps as unvaulted. Six of the eleven remain vaulted: Emperor’s Respite, Legion’s Gulch, Firebase Echo, Equinox, Retribution, and Gambler’s Ruin.
- Cathedral of Scars. The Gambit map is marked the same way. Kell’s Grave remains vaulted.
Other names appear on community lists of returned content. A few of those entries look inconsistent, so we left them out. The Destinypedia vault page tracks the full community list.
Destiny 1 raids were also reprised in Destiny 2:
- Vault of Glass returned in Season of the Splicer.
- King’s Fall returned in Season of Plunder.
- Crota’s End returned in Season of the Witch.
These are Destiny 1 raids rebuilt in Destiny 2. They are not the same as the raids on Bungie’s vaulted list above.
Where Unvaulting Stands Now
On September 21, 2026, Bungie published a post about the next chapter of Destiny 2. Game Informer’s coverage quotes Bungie as saying it plans to restore content archived in the Vault, and that vaulted campaigns, destinations, and raids will become available to all players again. You can find the post on Bungie.net.
Bungie also said the content needs work to run on the current version of the game. That includes updated lighting, combat encounters, and enemies.
Bungie has not said what happens to seasons, dungeons, or smaller activities. It has given no date and said the work will take time, with updates promised in the coming months.
Here is where things stood on October 28, 2026:
- Bungie has not named the first piece of content to return.
- Bungie has not announced a date.
- Bungie community staff said they were aiming for a follow-up blog post on Thursday, October 29.
- The latest patch we checked, 9.7.0.6 from October 20, 2026, did not mention vaulting, according to Shattered Vault.
For the full breakdown of the candidate campaigns, raids, and open questions, read our Destiny 2 unvaulting guide. That follow-up post could change this page. We will update it once Bungie publishes details.

FAQ
What does vaulted mean in Destiny 2?
Vaulted content is removed from the playable game and stored in the Destiny Content Vault. You cannot launch vaulted activities or visit vaulted destinations. Bungie has said vaulted content can return, but it has not promised that any specific piece will.
Is the Destiny 2 campaign vaulted?
The original Red War campaign was vaulted on November 10, 2020. Curse of Osiris and Warmind went with it, and Forsaken followed on February 22, 2022. Newer expansions are not vaulted this way, because Bungie stopped vaulting expansions in August 2022.
Which Destiny 2 raids are vaulted?
Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars, Scourge of the Past, and Crown of Sorrow were vaulted on November 10, 2020. Those are the raids on Bungie’s official vaulted list. Newer raids have stayed in the game.
Are Destiny 2 dungeons vaulted?
Bungie’s official vaulted list names only one dungeon, Prophecy, which returned in a later update. Bungie’s September 2026 unvaulting plans, as reported, name campaigns, destinations, and raids, not dungeons. Check the Director for what is playable today.
Which seasons and episodes are in the Destiny Content Vault?
Seasons from Forge through Wish are vaulted, along with the Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy episodes. Bungie vaulted them in batches across Years 4 to 8. Some of their activities have returned through other playlists.
Is Bungie bringing back vaulted Destiny 2 content?
Bungie announced on September 21, 2026 that it plans to bring back vaulted content. As of October 28, 2026, it has not named the first item, a date, or a full list. We will update this page when it does.
Did update 9.7.0 vault any content?
Update 9.7.0, released June 9, 2026, retired Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost, and The Dawning. Bungie calls these events retired rather than vaulted. Some of their rewards moved to the Monument of Guardian Tenets and Eververse.
Can I still get vaulted Exotics?
Many Exotic quests were removed with the content they belonged to, and quests in progress were wiped. Bungie noted that the weapons may still be earnable by other means. Check each weapon’s collections entry or its current source before assuming it is gone.
Which Crucible maps are vaulted?
Eleven Crucible maps were vaulted in Year 4, including Meltdown, Eternity, Vostok, and Solitude. Five have since returned (Meltdown, Eternity, Vostok, Solitude, and The Citadel), and six remain vaulted. We list the confirmed returns in the section on content that has come back.
How often does Bungie update the vaulted content list?
Bungie vaulted content on a fixed yearly cycle from Year 4 through Year 8. Its help page is the official record. Players should treat any list that has not been updated since September 2026 as possibly out of date.
